Most shower curtain rings are about two inches from top to bottom.  Link three together to lower the curtain four extra inches.  Three are necessary for correct positioning.  The top ring goes through the rod, the middle one will face sideways, and the curtain connecting ring will face the same as the top.   Attention to the little details can make all the difference in the world, or at least one little room at a time.
